Exactly Rebel8, exactly. Likely, the reason why the average ex-JW can't imagine living forever is because they can't envision anything beyond this system of things. Basically, they have tunnel vision. When they think about everlasting life, they unfortunately allow the aches and pains associated with growing old in this system of things to cloud out all of blessings that God's Kingdom will usher in.

Look out that no one takes you captive by means of the philosophy and empty deception according to human tradition, according to the elementary things of the world and not according to Christ. Because it is in him that all the fullness of the divine quality dwells bodily. -Col 2:8,9

I absolutely hate Gemma. Psycho-grandmother. Never thought I'd say this, but I cant stand Jax nowadays either. His decision making is almost as bad as Clay's. CultClassic, I agree, it's time to wrap it up. While its always been a bit outrageous, it was somewhat believable. Now it comes off like they're running out of stories to write about and are forcing themselves to make it interesting. I mean it took them forever to kill off key characters, and the latest hits seemed forced like they were looking for an excuse. Before the latest hit, they took out characters that barely had any screen time, so it was like no big deal. SOA is definitely not a Breaking Bad.

I guess I'll have to be the oddball in this thread because I found this lesson to be timely and absolutely necessary. It's difficult at times to say that modern civilization consists of individuals and groups of peoples because the ultimate reality is that modern civilization consists of consumers. Especially here in the U.S. is that especially true. Wives don't have husbands, and children don't have parents despite living in the same home as the other physical components of their family unit. Why? The answer is because the husband is too busy making a living, or the wife too busy supplementing the husband's income. Yeah it's nice that junior has an X-Box, but of what use it if he can't discuss it with his father at dinner because daddy is too busy putting in extra hours at the office.
Theocratic activities especially suffer because of an imbalanced view towards making a living. Missed meetings, missed field service, missed family worship night, etc.. Why? Because of not being satisfied with fulfilling the physical needs of the family, one or possibly both of the parents are too busy making a living or trying to accomplish the American Dream. It's really sad. They give extra to Caesar and go above and beyond for Uncle Sam, but shortchange Jehovah.

Why do Jehovah's Witnesses keep track of field service hours?
by Faithful Witness ini understand that they claim to have the responsibility to preach to every corner of the earth, so they can encourage armageddon to come quickly.
(matthew 24:14 "and this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.
what rationale do they have, for keeping track of their hours and literature placements?

Matthew 6:1-4
Jesus warns us about practicing righteousness in order to be recognized by men.
A field service report is turned in each month, for review by a body of men, who then determine your spiritual health. I don't see how this practice is following Christ's command. These are rules set forth by men.
What if you still did your service, but kept it between you and Jehovah? He sees it all, and only rewards the good deeds you do NOT report.
I guess I'm stuck. I can't understand why you need a body of men or a circuit overseer to evaluate your spiritual well-being.
Faithful Witness , those verses in Matt have absolutely nothing to do with why Jehovah's Witnesses report field service time. Likewise those verses don't shed a negative light on why Circuit Overseers or Elders pay attention to the activities of active publishers in the congregation. Field Service time isn't shared with the entire congregation. Years ago, the hours spent and the literature placed, was put on display for the whole congregation to see. If that were still the case, than MAYBE I would see how you could apply Matt 6:1-4 to what we're discussing. To the contrary, field service activity recorded on time slips is submitted discreetly, and only the Elder Body, and CO have access to those number.
Again for emphasis, the primary reason behind the need for recording the hours spent in the ministry, and counting of literature dispensed, is so that it can be accounted for in an effort to avoid waste all the while remaining cognizant of supply and demand. Secondarily, the numbers are also analyzed to get an idea of how individuals, congregations, circuits, and hence the entire organization is doing, spiritually. Remember, the primary goal of Jehovah's Witnesses is to support Christ's brothers (Matt 25:40) and follow his commission to increase discipleship which ultimately brings attention to God's Kingdom and praise to His holy name.-Matt 28:1, 20; John 17:6-8.
Jehovah's Witnesses don't pat themselves on the back, we don't do self-attaboys. While not perfect, we do strive to be proficient and frugal considering that our work is done on a volunteer basis. We're not a business.

Because prayer in many if not most instances is deeply private and besides keeping track of how often one prays would be contrary to the principle Jesus set out for us at Matt 6:5-13.
